From this morning: Air Quality Index Maroon: Hazardous. Health warnings of emergency conditions. This map fluctuates pretty wildly with changing winds. See how your region is doing: www.airnow.gov
Thomas Fire, Day 4 Update: We have relocated to West Hollywood to, very ironically, escape the increasingly unhealthy air quality in Santa Barbara & Ventura counties. The firefighters are working tirelessly to keep the spot fires under control and conduct some controlled burns to reduce the amt of "fuel" in high risk areas. We hope to join our neighbors and return home soon. With all the good news coming out of the valley, we are heartbroken to learn about more of our friends who lost their homes and had to suffer inaccurate social media posts, rumors and hearsay. Im grateful for the role social media played during this crisis, but it has been exhausting to try and determine the truth from the well intentioned and poorly informed. There have been mercifully few fatalities (Only 1 that I'm aware of) and relatively few injuries. We are glad to be safe and are looking forward to going home.
We are on a surreal evac-ation in Goleta as we wait for the all clear to head home. Hopefully tomorrow. Most of the threatening fires have been held off by the absolutely heroic firefighters from all across the state. Our house is standing.
